A man with short grey hair and a black shirt looks at the camera. A framed certificate is visible on the wall behind him, slightly out of focus.

Leadership Development Expert, Coach and Academy Director

Mark Tonks is a highly experienced leadership development specialist, executive coach and business adviser, helping people and organisations build the leadership capability needed to thrive today and prepare confidently for tomorrow.

After a successful 20 year career in the surface coatings industry, Mark brought his commercial experience into the world of leadership and people development. He partnered with Leadership Management International, a global provider of leadership and management development programmes, combining practical business insight with world class development solutions.

Since then, Mark has built a strong reputation across the learning and development sector for delivering meaningful, measurable and lasting change. His contribution to LMI was recognised when he achieved the organisation’s highest level of distinction worldwide, becoming an elected member of the Leadership Council.

Mark is the Academy Director of The Total Leader Academy, an ambitious two year leadership development experience designed for existing and emerging leaders. The Academy tackles the common weaknesses of traditional leadership training, including poor follow up, limited accountability and weak return on investment. It develops leaders across personal productivity, personal leadership, motivational leadership and strategic leadership, helping organisations create a stronger and more future ready leadership pipeline.

An Accredited Coach with the Association for Coaching, Mark studied at the College of Personal Development in Swindon. He is also an accredited life and business coach, NLP practitioner, ILM Level 5 qualified in Executive Coaching and Mentoring, and an approved Prevue HR Profiling Practitioner. His approach is straightforward and practical, helping people gain clarity, take ownership and turn their potential into consistent results.

Mark’s experience extends beyond coaching and leadership programmes. He has served as a Non Executive Director and board adviser to a PR and marketing agency and a Youth Development CIC, bringing a grounded, strategic perspective to organisations navigating growth, change and people challenges.

He is also deeply committed to his local community. Mark founded the Long Walk Home fundraising event, which raised more than £70,000 over six years for local causes, including the Buddy Bag Foundation, supporting children affected by domestic abuse.

A lifelong sportsman, Mark has held several leadership positions within his rugby club, including First XV Captain and Chairman. As one of only 14 elected life members in the club’s history, he helped lead its recovery following a devastating fire in 1994 and later headed a £350,000 redevelopment project, delivering new changing facilities, a weights and conditioning suite, and floodlighting.

Mark has worked with organisations including ADP Architecture, Spring Housing, Evac Chair, St PhilipsChambers, Handelsbanken, Allied Irish Bank, Birmingham City Football Club, Endsleigh Insurance, Zurich Insurance, Santander and Philips.
