Associate Director

Dr Toomas Särev

Dr Toomas spent over two decades watching highly intelligent people make avoidable mistakes. Not because they lacked knowledge. Because they lacked space to think.

That pattern, repeated across cardiology units in Estonia, Finland, Norway, Ethiopia, Sudan, and the NHS, eventually became a question he could not stop asking: what happens to decision-making when the cognitive oxygen runs out?

A Consultant Cardiologist and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Toomas now works at the edge of clinical rigour and human-centred leadership. He coaches senior clinicians and healthcare executives to think more clearly under pressure, challenge assumptions, and lead teams that stay whole when the work gets hard.

He is an EMCC-accredited individual and team coach, a Gold Certified Red Team Thinking® Instructor, and a Genos International Emotional Intelligence Practitioner. He created the Cognitive Oxygen® (COx) framework: a model for understanding why capable people stop performing, and what leaders can do about it.

As an Associate Director of LMI-UK, he brings Foundations of Success for Healthcare Leaders [https://healthcare-leadership.eventbrite.co.uk] and the Total Leader programme to healthcare audiences who are clinically sharp and leadership-tired.
